cardi b's new 'be careful' video is a vengeful ode to 'kill bill'

Move over Meghan Markle, Cardi B is the supreme bride.

Cardi B disappeared from the spotlight earlier this month, abruptly deleting her Instagram after being cyberbullied by Azealia Banks. We were left wondering when we would see our queen again. Fortunately, Cardi B’s sabbatical did not last long. The rapper has reactivated her Instagram and, even better, delivered a new music video for “Be Careful.”

The visual heavily draws from Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill. Cardi reminds us of The Bride as she and her groom get married in a Western-tinged chapel. But the two do not live in holy matrimony for too long. The next setup sees Cardi at a funeral — for her groom. Cardi isn’t shedding any tears. She looks down at her slain husband with a smile on her face. We get the message loud and clear: don’t mess with Cardi.

This is not the first pop video to reference Tarantino. Beyoncé and Lady Gaga delivered back to back Tarantino-esque videos in 2010. “Telephone” saw the two stars drive around in the pussy wagon from Kill Bill and embarking on a murder rampage. While “Video Phone” featured costumes that referenced Kill Bill’s Crazy 88 and channeled the director’s love for ceaseless gunfire.

This steady arsenal of bangers from Cardi is showing the world that yes, it is possible to be one of the top female rappers and pregnant at the same time. One of our favorite moments will forever be her twerking on stage at Coachella, swollen belly and all.
