The CFDA Awards are an industry event. They don't have the obvious glamour of the Met Ball or the Oscars. But what they lack in Rihanna-style showstoppers (this year, at least) they make up for with feels. Everyone seems genuinely happy to be at the CFDA Awards. People smile with their teeth and designers clap for fellow industry insiders with what seems like actual pride.

This year's winner of the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award, Betsey Johnson — 72-year-old pioneer of the champagne workout — even celebrated her statuette by performing her signature cartwheel and the splits on stage.

And Kanye West made a joke at his own expense. He called himself "the angry Pharrell" as he presented the Happy singer with the Fashion Icon Award. (Two things to note about this. One, this joke was made within the context of Kanye's comparison of himself to Barack Obama. And two, Pharell was wearing jeans to a black-tie event — at which he was being honored for his culture-changing style. His hat has also quite small.)

Even Anna Wintour seemed to be letting her bob down.

Other people with reasons to be happy: Grimes, who looked magical in cutout Proenza Schouler; Shayne Oliver of Hood By Air, who took home the Swarovski Award for Menswear and walked the red carpet with Binx in a knockout HBA zippered white gown; Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen because they won the Womenswear Designer of the Year Award for The Row; and Kim K, because... she's pregnant! She was wearing Proenza Schouler too, and was on hand to present Kevin Systrom with this year's Media Award on behalf of Instagram — the first-ever app to win the award.

Finally, Anna Ewers also had every reason to be glowing. She wore a custom Alexander Wang chain-mail dress made from 500 golden Amex cards.
