download a crate of vintage rave tapes from techno guru mike dred
The legendary producer and DJ has uploaded 28 mix tapes, recorded between 1988 and 1994, to his Google Drive.
What were you doing between 1988 and 1994? If you didn't answer "being born," you might be familiar with acid techno legend Michael Cullen, aka Mike Dred, aka "The Jimi Hendrix of the 303." The veteran DJ/producer and Reflex Records artist has just dumped a crate of 28 vintage mixtapes from 88-through-94 onto the internet, notes FACT. Only one of them has a track listing — a mix recorded in 1990 that features LiL Louis, Suburban Knights, Ragga Twins, 808 State, Scientist, and Fallout — but the magic is in the mystery. "There are a few missing from the series and they should turn up," Dred notes on a handy Google Doc, "they will be added."
The benefactor of this vintage rave booty has asked that those downloading the tapes donate "a beer's worth or more" to his PayPal account. And don't be a Scrooge, because he's already got another crate ready to upload provided this one's a hit: "The 88 hip hop and new beat ones will come later too," he teases. "It's quite time consuming to nail them all." Head over to his Google Drive to start downloading.
