lou de laâge is the beautiful new face of french cinema
Superstar by name, superstar by nature, French actress Lou de Laâge is living the life she always dreamed of.
Lou wears top Sonia Rykiel.
She always dreamed of being an actress. "My only form of pleasure at school came from reciting poems on the school benches," Lou de Laâge recalls, "I loved having the opportunity to express myself while hiding behind the words and energy of a different character." Fast-forward to present day and the 25-year-old has outgrown the "one to watch" category. Even her name rolls beautifully off the tongue. She's a force to be reckoned with on screen, receiving her second César nomination for Respire; her first was for Jappeloup. "It's not so much the career, but the art that attracted me," she says, "simply the act of playing a role… Understanding and expressing a feeling, a situation, is exciting."
Her first three films were met with critical acclaim, but it is her most recent film, The Wait, in which she stars alongside the legendary Juliette Binoche, that Lou is most excited about. Marking her transition from the wings to centre stage, Lou is in the midst of her coming of age moment. "It was a new and very important step in my entry into the profession," she says, "to learn and work shoulder to shoulder with such an actress, whom I admire so much, provided me with a new challenge." With plenty in the pipeline, Lou's looking up, all starry-eyed. "At the moment, life just keeps on surprising me. I'm very lucky. I'd simply like to continue to be caught by these pretty surprises, to not return to the vicious circle with a fear of tomorrow." Bonne chance!
