amputee model lauren wasser books a holiday campaign
The TSS Survivor returns to modeling in Nordstrom's latest catalogue.
It's hard to believe that almost a whole month has gone by since Kylie's controversial Interview Magazine spread hit the Twittersphere. The poutiest Jenner donned a PVC corset and a gilded wheelchair for the Steven Klein-photographed shoot, earning accusations of "ableism" and powerful recreations of her shoot by social media users who are actually dependent on a wheelchair…not just bound to the Kardashians.
Though Kylie's prop wheelchair was meant to symbolize being "limited by fame," amputee model Lauren Wasser, has used her disability to leap forward. Since losing her leg to Toxic Shock Syndrome in 2012, Wasser has raised awareness about the infection with a public lawsuit against tampon brand Kotex, and has been redefining beauty with candid photos on her Instagram account appropriately called @theimpossiblemuse. Here, she shared her own take on the Kylie shoot and announced her "first job back in the modeling game" with two images from Nordstrom's Holiday catalogue.
Decked in Nike activewear, with her prosthetic leg prominently on display, the model continues to break new ground and end the month, and year on a high note for disability awareness.
