Kendrick Lamar has dropped a new record this morning called untitled unmastered, its songs culled predominantly from the sessions that made up his stellar third album, To Pimp A Butterfly. This follows hints from his label, Top Dawg Entertainment, that something was in the works in a cryptic Instagram post about its upcoming projects.

untitled unmastered is made up eight tracks, replacing titles with the dates the recordings were made. Predominantly recorded in 2013 and 2014, but also featuring an eight minute-long song with the date 2014 - 2016, possibly hinting at more material to be released soon. untitled unmastered runs in a similar style to A Pimp A Butterfly, featuring the record's trademark mix of jazz, hip hop, funk and politically charged lyrics.

Kendrick had recently hinted in an interview with 2 Dope Boyz that he had a trove of unreleased material ready to drop. "You see all these performances on these late night shows," he said. "I got a chamber of material from the album that I was in love where sample clearances or something as simple as a deadline kept it off the album. But I think probably close to ten songs that I'm in love with that I'll still play and still perform that didn't make the cut."
