madonna’s daughter makes her (pastel-haired) modeling debut
Lourdes Leon is the latest model to be Instagram-initiated into Stella McCartney’s girl-power crew.
Stella McCartney has revealed the latest face of her Pop fragrance campaign and it's none other than Madonna's teenage daughter, Lourdes Leon. Leon, who goes by Lola, makes her modeling debut alongside Grimes, Kenya Kinski-Jones, and Amandla Stenberg (whose addition to the campaign was announced two days ago). As a budding performance artist and musical theater major at the University of Michigan, Leon seems like a great fit for the campaign (pastel-colored hair and all), which McCartney described as "a group of young women who can come together as one, but at the same time, they can stand alone." The designer went on to say that the casting choices were quite personal, as she has known 19-year-old Leon since she was born.
Each casting announcement has been made over Instagram, where McCartney has congratulated each girl on her accomplishments and star quality. The designer called multimedia artist and musical powerhouse Grimes "the real deal" and "a true Renaissance woman," and expressed her admiration for Kinski-Jones' animal activism. She called Stenberg "an inspirational role model for girls across the world." Today, she expressed her love for Leon and how, despite her fame, "she has kept her feet firmly on the ground." The Pop campaign has a very strong focus on inner beauty and activism, which is refreshing for a fragrance campaign. The casting choices alone send the message that this brand is about girls speaking their minds and standing behind one another. Even the campaign's film director, Melina Matsoukas, is the perfect choice, having recently directed Beyoncé's "Formation" video. As for Leon, we don't expect this will be her last modeling gig.
