Lady Gaga wasn't able to make the AMAs ceremony in Los Angeles, but that didn't stop her from joining the show to celebrate the work of Azzedine Alaïa. The pop star still gave a stirring performance as part of the televised broadcast all the way from the other side of the country, in Washington DC, where she's performing for the North American leg of her Joanne World Tour. "Behind the Scenes getting ready for #AMAs in #Alaïa and this year they brought the show to me!" Gaga wrote on Instagram.
Never one to do things in half-measures, Gaga constructed an exact replica of the AMAs red carpet for herself in DC, posing in a second vintage Alaïa number. Later in the evening, she was awarded Favourite Female Pop/Rock Artist.
The singer had previously donned an Alaïa gown for the 2015 Academy Awards, always maintaining a special relationship with the celebrated designer. Following his passing, Gaga shared a moving tribute on social media, which read: "I’ll mourn forever the loss of my friend. A true genius in not only fashion but in his heart...He should be celebrated as one of the greatest fashion designers the world has ever known. I️ love you, Azzedine."
