Luca Guadagnino just can’t stop. Whether he’s teasing us with the prospect of a Call Me by Your Name sequel, dropping new episodes of the most stylish show on television We Are Who We Are, or making documentaries about legends of the fashion industry, he’s swiftly become one of the most prolific filmmakers of the moment. Next up? He’s produced a brand new movie for Netflix.

Titled Born to Be Murdered, and directed by Milanese filmmaker Ferdinando Cito Filomarino, who makes his English language debut here, the film is supposedly a dark thriller about a couple who fall into the clutches of a deadly conspiracy while on holiday in Greece.

The movie is packed full of star talent: Alicia Vikander and John David Washington head up the film’s cast alongside Narcos’ Boyd Holbrook and the queen of Phantom Thread, Vicky Krieps. Not only that, but Call Me by Your Name cinematographer Sayombhu Mukdeeprom has graciously framed the whole project, whilst Ryuichi Sakamoto has written the score.

That’s a pretty impressive line-up for somebody’s English language debut, and we reckon Luca’s pulling power had something to do with it. After all, Luca and Ferdinando have been working together for over a decade now: Ferdinando was the Second Unit Assistant Director on I Am Love, A Bigger Splash, Call Me By Your Name and Suspiria.

Further details (as it is with 95% of Luca’s projects) are pretty scarce for now, but there is one thing we do know: Born to Be Murdered has been shot and edited already, and is due to hit Netflix in 2021.
