The Theory of Everything actress Felicity Jones pipped Rooney Mara and Tatiana Maslany to the post for the female lead in Gareth Edwards’ Star Wars.
Set for release almost a year after JJ Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens (set for release 18th December 2015), the latest Star Wars spin-off, directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) seems to be Disney's best kept secret. This will be the first film outside of the franchise's main storyline, although who the storyline will focus on is still a mystery. Rumours have circulated about a plot based around Boba Fett, Han Solo or Princess Leia, and the only thing we do know, is that 31-year-old British actress Felicity Jones has been cast as the female lead. Nominated for an Oscar for her role as Stephen Hawking's wife Jane, in The Theory of Everything, Jones was apparently in the mix with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo star Rooney Mara and Orphan Black actress Tatiana Maslany, but pipped both to the post for who we hope will be playing the young Leia! Aaron Paul and Edgar Ramirez's names have also been circulated as possibles for the male lead.
The film is set for release on 16th December 2016.
