​'playboy' to stop publishing pictures of naked women

Internet porn has made nude images “passé” according to editor Cory Jones.

, the infamous men's magazine that dubs grown women "bunnies," has announced that it will stop publishing pictures of naked women. Chief content officer Cory Jones told the  that the 89-year-old Editor-in-Chief, Hugh Hefner, agreed to the relatively radical change of heart last month, when Jones proposed it to him at his residence, the Playboy Mansion.

Playboy looms large in the history of America's sexual awakening, helping to move the US from its prudish past into the present, when, as we all know, sex sells everything and is available instantly on a smartphone. "That battle has been fought and won," chief executive Scott Flanders says, "You're now one click away from every sex act imaginable for free. And so it's just passé at this juncture." The lads mag that started them all has indeed watched the market it created collapse, with closures at Loaded, Nuts, Zoo, Maxim and Penthouse in recent years.

The magazine still plans to publish images of women in provocative poses and continue the Playmate of the Month feature, but the images will be "PG-13" and resemble the "racier sections of Instagram" in the NYT's assessment. "A little more accessible, a little more intimate," Jones explains.

The newly-designed Playboy will launch next March and will include journalism, long-form interviews and fiction, as it always has, with the addition of visual art -- because research suggests young people are drawn to art. It will still focus on sex, but the new sex columnist will be a "sex-positive female," writing enthusiastically about the topic.
