He was the first British MC - and last (of significance) - to really make an impact on American Hip Hop culture. Ricky Walters went on to inspire a generation of 90s MC's, including Jay, Snoop and Big with his insightful storytelling on songs like Children's Story and Hey Young World . It's only right then that the man with the patch is celebrated in song by Hackney rapper J. Spades, who has consistently carved a name for himself over the last few years. For the the remix, Spades calls on two other British MC's for a remix to end all remixes. Check out the i-D premiere of Slick Rick, Ft. Tinie Tempah and Professor Green, below….

How did the concept for Slick Rick come about?
To be honest we just caught a vibe in the studio, we weren't even searching for a club banger! [Producer] The Beat Boss produced Slick Rick and he's been working with me since my MMMP1 mixtape.

Why was Slick Rick so important?
Because it's Hip Hop in every sense of the word. Slick Rick himself is important to us because he's the only English rapper to gain respect from his American peers.

When you were looking at doing the remix, why did you approach Tinie and Pro Green?
Because we wanted the track to be epic. We also thought that it would be a good idea to have three different styles on the same record; that way we almost leave nothing to chance (laughs).

What are you plans for 2015?
In 2015 I plan to release GRT MMMP3 and do my own tour. I also want to do more festivals, I did Wireless a few years back with Naughty Boy and the buzz was crazy, so I can't wait to do more. I think if I can do that this year, in December my team and I will be able to look back at this as a pretty successful year.

Slick Rick is released 23 March and the new mixtape MMMP3 will be released in the Spring…
