Model, actor and Kendall Jenner BFF Gigi Hadid has posted a surprisingly emotional statement on her Instagram account in response to negative comments she has received about her body and runway walk over the past month.

Having played the cartoon blonde bombshell for Jeremy Scott, an all-American girl for Tommy Hilfiger and a sexy party girl for Donatella at Versace, Hadid's spring/summer 16 catwalk appearances make so. Much. Sense. But unfortunately trolls will be trolls and some have clearly been giving her a hard time about her relatively curvy body for a runway model and her distinctive walk.

"So many people are so quick to comment negative opinions this month," she posted on instagram as the opening line in a lengthy statement on the matter. "Yes, judgement on social media comes from people who, 99% of the time, have no idea what they're talking about, but I'm human, and I'm not going to lie, I did let the negativity get to me a little," she said, adding, "No, I don't think I have the same body type as the other models in shows. No, I don't think I am the best at any given show. Yes, I want a unique walk but I also know I have to improve. No, I'm not the first or last model of my type in this industry," and explaining that, "You can make up all the reasons you think I am where I am, but really, I'm a hard worker that's confident in myself, one that came at a time where the fashion industry was ready for a change."

She points out that she is representing "a body image that wasn't accepted in high fashion before," saying, "Yes I have boobs, I have abs, I have a butt, I have thighs," adding, "but I'm not asking for special treatment". Though she clarifies that she is fitting into sample sizes, her body type does appear to fall into the gap between 'standard' and 'plus' size models that UK size 12 model Natasha Culzac told i-D put 'inbetweenie' models in a difficult position, being told to either lose weight or put some on in order to find jobs.

"Your mean comments don't make me want to change my body," Hadid wrote, "they don't make me want to say no to the designers that ask me to be in their shows, and they definitely don't change the designers opinions of me… I've said it before... I hope everyone gets to a place in their life where they'd rather talk about the things that inspire them over the things that bring others down," she continues, adding "At least be open if not part of the change, because it's undeniably happening."

Tyra Banks has come out in support of Hadid, regramming her post and commenting, "I haven't met you yet @gigihadid but I FEEL you so much. Your words are powerful. Your words are necessary. Your words are vulnerable. Your words are real. Sending you love and hugs. From one model that had curves and a unique walk to another, Tyra". Since her Instagram post, Hadid has taken to Twitter to list all the diverse women's bodies she loves.
