watch a new clip from the amy winehouse documentary
Amy didn’t think she was writing songs, but poems, according to her manager.
The makers of upcoming Amy Winehouse documentary, Amy, have released a short teaser clip showing footage of Winehouse messing about with a camera, shots of song lyrics and a surprising revelation from her manager, Nick Shymansky.
Shymansky reveals that, soon after they had recorded some demos, he asked Amy whether she had considered writing songs: "She said she's not sure about writing songs, but she's written a lot of poems," he says. However, he adds that, "She knew full well she'd been writing songs, but they were very personal songs." The film also shows some lyrics hand written on yellow lined paper with hearts drawn along the margin.
In the trailer, released last month, there is footage of Winehouse telling a reporter, "I wouldn't write anything unless it was directly personal to me, just cause I wouldn't be able to tell the story right." In what now seems a very sad prediction, she also tells the journalist, "I don't think I'm going to be at all famous. I don't think I could handle it... I would go mad."
Amy Winehouse's family have recently distanced themselves from the film, which they have branded "misleading," saying that it lacks balance and wrongly accuses them of not doing enough for the late singer.
Amy is due to be released July 3.
