They don’t call it International Women’s Day for nothing. This year we traveled the globe, asking women in Tokyo, Berlin, Paris, Mexico City and the US who their role models are, what feminism means to them and what the best thing about being a woman...

Cailin Suzanne Russo

Where are you from?
San Diego

What do you do? Does being a woman impact it?
I'm a self-proclaimed artist and musician. Being a women absolutely does -- by being a role model, being an individual with something to say that other women and girls can connect with to bind together.

Who are your female role models?
Amy Winehouse, my mom, Nina Simone. I'm sure there are more that I'm missing, but I respect strong, individual women that have something to say and can express themselves through art and they themselves are art.

What does feminism mean to you?
It means equality -- not being looked at or questioned because you're a women.

Do you think men can be feminists?
Absolutely, men should be feminists! Men should want equality for women.

If you could change one thing about the world what would it be and why?
Racism. It's ignorant, inhumane, and disgusting. We are all skin and bones #blacklivesmatter.

What's the best thing about being a woman in 2016?
Freedom, and how women have come together more then ever to support one another.

What advice would you give the next generation?
Love yourself, and don't second guess anything.

Courtney Coll

Where are you from?
Chicago.

What do you do? Does being a woman impact it?
Mainly design clothing, but I really love getting my hands dirty with all different projects at the moment. No, being a women does not impact that because art, music, and fashion are influenced by both men and women.

Who are your female role models?
Patti Smith, Maureen Tucker, Vali Myers, and Kristy Marlana Wallace.

What does feminism mean to you?
Independence.

If you could change one thing about the world what would it be and why?
Social media. It's become a distraction to everyone.

What's the best thing about being a woman in 2016?
Waking up in a country where women are treated how they should be treated. We are able to make decisions right now on living freely, where in some place that is not the case.

What advice would you give the next generation?
Don't let anyone or anything influence you to do something you don't want to do. Don't lose your imagination!

Tallulah Willis

Where are you from?
Los Angeles, California.

What do you do? Does being a woman impact it?
Part time cartoonist, full time slug. In the infant stages of my pursuit in this field, my gender has played a huge role in where I draw my inspiration.

Who are your female role models?
My mother and my 95-year-old friend Ilona Royce Smithkin who is the embodiment of an artist and the closest thing I will ever get to meeting a mythical creature.

What does feminism mean to you?
It is about viewing oneself and others from an all encompassing lens of acceptance and love. We live in a social climate where gender is more fluid than it has ever been and thus should not be grounds to dictate the way a human being is treated.

Do you think men can be feminists?
Yes, without a doubt.

If you could change one thing about the world what would it be and why?
What would earth look like if meanness were just taken off the menu?

What's the best thing about being a woman in 2016? What advice would you give the next generation?
Self-deprecation is unbelievably boring.

Fiona Feder

Where are you from?
I was born in Macau and grew up in Los Angeles.

What do you do? Does being a woman impact it?
I work in fashion and play in a band called Sugarcube. Being a woman impacts both the music and fashion industry in different ways. I think women are taken more seriously in fashion than in music. Although the fashion industry is driven by and cater to women, it's still run mostly by men, and that needs to change.

Who are your female role models?
Diana Vreeland, Malala Yousafzai, Patti Smith, my mom.

What does feminism mean to you?
Equality.

Do you think men can be feminists?
Yes.

If you could change one thing about the world what would it be and why?
Apathy. There is such inequality, suffering, and pain in the world, and we should all be more supportive and caring of one another.

What's the best thing about being a woman in 2016?
People are much more open minded and accepting, you can really see things changing, especially with the use of social media.

What advice would you give the next generation?
Live in the moment, get off your phones!

Minji Money

Where are you from?
Provo, Utah.

What do you do? Does being a woman impact it?
I'm still figuring out what do to -- figuring out the woman I want to be.

Who are your female role models?
It's totally cliché but it might be Beyoncé.

What does feminism mean to you?
Equality. We are all human.

Do you think men can be feminists?
I believe aliens could be feminists.

If you could change one thing about the world what would it be and why?
No more Kardashians.

What's the best thing about being a woman in 2016?
I can't remember the last time I saw a padded bra.

What advice would you give the next generation?
Create.

Anaka Marie Wetch

Where are you from?
I'm from Topanga Canyon, a mountain community on the outskirts of Los Angeles.

What do you do? Does being a woman impact it?
Well, I've been doing modeling for a few years. I want to be a filmmaker and photojournalist, documenting socio-political tensions around the world. I think being a woman definitely impacts my work and how others perceive it. There are also very few women directors, and I hope to help change that.

Who are your female role models?
Niki de Saint Phalle, Djuna Barnes, Audrey Hepburn, Marlene Dietrich, Anna Karina, and Emma Watson.

Do you think men can be feminists?
Yeah, men can totally be feminists. However it's easier said than done. Anyone who is for equal rights across the genders can still have deeply engrained standards and be given unequal opportunities because of their gender.

If you could change one thing about the world what would it be and why?
I would change humanity's darkest flaw -- the ego and all the nasty things like greed that come with it -- into tenderness and desire to create beneficial change.

What's the best thing about being a woman in 2016?
The best thing about this year for me is that I can finally vote (Bernie Sanders) and I'm going to college this fall (Berlin or New York). I can't speak for all women but in general I think standards are slightly changing and ideologies are continuing to shift as the younger generation becomes more active in society.

What advice would you give the next generation?
Don't let anyone tell you what you can and cannot do. Aspire to have a job that doesn't exist yet. Care for the earth and all living things. Treat everyone with equal compassion.
