Well, this should be interesting. This Sunday, during the 2016 Video Music Awards, Kanye West will have four minutes of airtime to do whatever he wants with.
Following an earlier report from TMZ, MTV confirmed to Pitchfork that Ye has been granted 240 seconds of unscripted stage time, and that even the event's producers don't know what he's planning. Is the move an attempt to control West's notoriously chaotic presence at the VMAs, an awards show at which, for some reason, he has always decided to say exactly he wants? See: the announcement last year of his (since canceled) presidential campaign, during his startling Vanguard Video Award acceptance speech. And, of course, his infamous cameo in Taylor Swift's Video Of The Year acceptance speech in 2013.
Still, there's no doubt that MTV loves Yeezy, interruptions and all: he's performed six times at the VMAs, and his highly controversial "Famous" music video has scored a nomination for 2016's Video of the Year award. Tune in at 9pm EST this Sunday, to watch what will doubtless be an event worth tweeting about. After the dramatic year Kanye's had post-Pablo, we certainly can't seem to look away.
