Not since Alicia Drake's The Beautiful Fall: Fashion, Genius, and Glorious Excess in 1970s Paris has there been a page-turning tale of fashion's highest flyers. That book looked at the relationship and careers of Yves Saint Laurent and Karl Lagerfeld. Now Dana Thomas, a contributing editor for T Magazine and writer for The New Yorker, Vogue and Harper's Bazaar is telling the story of Galliano and McQueen, "two working class British boys who shook fashion to its core" in Gods and Kings.

The book, not out until 19th February next year, presents their lives in rich detail, garnered from more than 100 interviews with people close to the designers and the author's own accounts of watching them as they moved from the raucous art and club scene of London to the old-school heart of French couture. It explores the similarities and differences in their personalities, charisma and style and their absolute desperation to revolutionise fashion.
