happy record store day!
This Saturday 18th April record shops the world over will unite in celebration of the warm and special sort of sound that only a needle on vinyl can produce.
Hundreds of artists - from Jay-Z to Bowie - will be releasing and re-releasing exclusive content on vinyl in the name of quality music and (shhhh) bonus $$$. Wes Anderson fans are currently buzzing in anticipation as the soundtrack to The Darjeeling Limited is pressed for the first time ever, while worshipers o the handsome beard prepare to bag a red heart-shape 7" of Father John Misty's I Love You Honeybear and hip-hop heads in aim for a badge-shaped copy of J Dilla's Fuck The Police. As well as limited edition releases, musicians and DJs will be playing at stores across the globe, with London's Berwick Street bringing the party to the capital with help from the likes of John Cooper Clarke, DJ Yoda and 2Bears. The Ace Hotel's branch of Sister Ray will be full of special edition sales and open from 8am, and it'll be well worth a visit to the Deal Real Legacy pop up where crate diggers will be treated to performances from Kano, Ghetts and Novelist. After the #RSD15 there's the after party (at East London's Oval Space as they team up with Phonica) and after the party there's the hotel lobby (your bedroom floor as you play back all of your new finds). Remember, a record store is for life, not just for record store day.
