emma watson to play belle in live action disney show
“My six-year-old self is on the ceiling – heart bursting,” she said about her role in the remake of Beauty and the Beast.
If your early learning years were the first half of the 1990s, then your Disney Princess dress up doll was probably Belle, the damsel-in-distress from Beauty and the Beast.
It turns out, perhaps unsurprisingly, it was Emma Watson's too and now the Harry Potter star turned young feminist icon is about to slip into a big ball gown for a Disney live action remake of the classic fairytale.
In cute-as-heck, Disney Princess style, Emma wrote of her joy at getting the gig on her Facebook page today. She said: "I'm finally able to tell you… that I will be playing Belle in Disney's new live-action Beauty and the Beast! It was such a big part of my growing up, it almost feels surreal that I'll get to dance to Be Our Guest and sing Something There. My six-year-old self is on the ceiling - heart bursting. Time to start some singing lessons. I can't wait for you to see it."
The film will be directed by Bill Condon, who was at the helm for that other tween megafranchise of the last decade, Twilight: Breaking Dawn. Beauty and the Beast goes into production this year. A release date has not yet been announced.
