In the 90s, downtown New York club Building had its own version of a membership book. But the party mecca, housed in a former electrical substation, wasn't interested in guests signing in and leaving a pager number. Rather, the venue requested a photo  a Polaroid to be exact. Building became the place for some of the decade's biggest stars to hang out; its weekly hip-hop nights would attract sets from De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, Run-DMC, the Beastie Boys, and Funkmaster Flex. The future music legends drew an enviable crown and that guest book started to fill up. Over the years the likes of Naomi Campbell, Judy Blame, Chris Rock, and Christos Tolera dropped by. The entire Polaroid archive was recently purchased by the Standard Hotel, which has published it online along with an oral history of the club. Check it out, and pray one day you're this cool.
