Ottawa's most awesome 17-year-old, Gabriella Diana, gave Transgender Day of Visibility a head start yesterday when she stumbled across an old photo. Posting the photo side-by-side with a newer one to her Instagram account, she wrote, "I never really like to go back to these times in my life, but something about seeing the image on the left have so much happiness for where I am now. I remember this time so vividly for a time I always tried to forget."

Sharing her story with her followers, she continued, "I used to wear my mom's dresses and makeup, and it wasn't easy in the beginning since I wasn't transitioning, I was just a gay boy experimenting with my image, but now I'm a transitioning woman, almost getting to the next step of a major surgery that I never imagined would be in the cards. Half of the people who follow me don't even know one part of the struggles and hell I endured on the road to happiness but my struggles made me a confident young woman, and I'm truly fucking blown away because if you asked me three years ago, I would have genuinely thought I would be dead if I couldn't explore this world of gender identity that led me to transitioning."

Her hashtag #MomentsInTransition hashtag quickly caught on, and young trans people all over Instagram and Twitter are now sharing their own inspiring anecdotes about critical moments and milestones within their own explorations of gender identity. It might be a physical change noticed after a few months on hormone treatment, and it may be simply a feeling. The most touching part is when people acknowledge that not all trans kids (and adults) are lucky enough to take a similar journey. "All those #Trans kids who can't transition, who are going through a rough time, who have unsupportive parents, who are facing all sorts of challenges like bathrooms and #dysphoria: Don't ever give up," wrote one guy. "It's hard, but it WILL get better." Read some of their stories below.

"1 year on hormones and 2 years since I came out as Kaley!:)" @kaleykutie94

"When you finally feel complete, transitioning was the best decision I've ever made. All those #Trans kids who can't transition, who are going through a rough time, who have unsupportive parents, who are facing all sorts of challenges like bathrooms and #dysphoria: Don't ever give up. It's hard, but it WILL get better. Be brave, you can do this." @weird_freaky_

"When you finally start feeling comfortable, beautiful, sexy AND you like it!" @scarlettpixl

"When I went to my first bar in my small (redneck) town, as myself, and I got nothing but compliments. I was really scared lol. But my friends were with me for support. I was already a strong person, but that day proved who cares?? I am who I am. And I'm stronger than I know." @echomonroe

"1st haircut, 1st binder, 3 weeks on T, 5 months on T" @ftmwiseguy

"I wore an old tank top today and felt euphoric." @rosalynnemontoya

"When you realize a month in that your'e becoming #THEWOMAN that you've always dreamed about being #itgetsbetter (the left picture was 2014 PRE-HRT and the right picture was a few days ago a little over 3 weeks on HRT" @mstracibabye_
