Since stealing the show on Dr. Dre's Compton soundtrack, Anderson .Paak has fast become one of rap's most highly rated newcomers.

He followed his 2014 album Venice with this year's soul-stuffed Malibu, a candid, confident offering featuring production from DJ Premier, Kaytranada, Khalil, Madlib and 9th Wonder and collaborations with The Game, ScHoolboy Q, Talib Kweli, and BJ The Chicago Kid.

To close the year out, the 29-year-old drops a video for the celebratory Come Down, a triumphant number which sees .Paak position himself as a latter-day James Brown, his vocal slipping and sliding effortlessly around Hi-Tek's funk-filled beat.

"We wanted to bring the iconic artwork of Ernie Barnes Sugar Shack and Marvin Gaye's cover for I Want You to life. Sweaty-black-funk-sexy-good-time," .Paak tells i-D of the CALMATIC-directed clip, before issuing a final instruction: "Enjoy!"

Press play on "Come Down" and get ready to get down.
