how nathalie croquet's fashion ads spoof beauty ideals
Our new Cindy Sherman dresses up as Kate Moss, Gisele and Edie Campbell in her series 'SPOOF.'
There might not ever be a parody as good as this one, but French fashion and beauty stylist and journalist Nathalie Croquet's spoof fashion ads come pretty close. She's been in the industry for 30 years, acting as photo editor for the likes of Biba and Jean Paul Gaultier, and Croquet has certainly not let those skills slide. Applying them to her series SPOOF, photographed by Daniel Schweizer, Croquet deals with the issue of the devastatingly high standards of beauty women are subjected to today by placing herself in the exact same positions, clothes, hair, make-up, lighting and ideals as the supermodels in high fashion campaigns. It takes balls to dress yourself up as a supermodel when you aren't one, and then go on to compare yourself to them, so we're pretty impressed with Croquet's efforts.
