Joey Bada$$ gave back to the Brooklyn neighbourhood he was raised in on Saturday when he co-hosted a holiday community celebration with the Flatbush YMCA. The rapper and members of his Pro Era collective welcomed 300 Flatbush residents of all ages to a special festive party that included face painting, carnival games, a bouncy house, an inflated obstacle run and even dance contests judged by Joey himself. The rapper then rounded off the festivities by playing a game of basketball with some of the teenagers present and giving away his own sneakers and items of clothing. "I grew up in Flatbush and always wanted to do something to give back to the community that raised me from a boy to a man," Joey said afterwards. "It was amazing to see kids from my neighbourhood enjoy a day that the Pros and I were able to come together to give them. Seeing the smiles on the faces of the children, parents and even my own team warmed my heart greatly." Meanwhile, the executive director of the Flatbush YMCA, Meishay Gattis, thanked the rapper for his generosity and described the atmosphere on the day as "electrifying".
