Kate Beckinsale has added her own harrowing story to the mounting pile of allegations against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. In a lengthy Instagram post shared over the weekend, the actor details an encounter she had with Weinstein at 17.

Kate recounts first meeting the producer when he invited her to his hotel, opening the door in his bathrobe and offering her her a drink — a series of events we're now familiar with. Kate wrote, "I assumed it would be in a conference room which was very common. When I arrived, reception told me to go to his room...I was incredibly naive and young and it did not cross my mind that this older, unattractive man would expect me to have any sexual interest in him. After declining alcohol and announcing that I had school in the morning I left, uneasy but unscathed." A few years later, Weinstein allegedly approached Kate and asked her if "he had tried anything" during "that first meeting."

The actress said she continued to say 'No' to Weinstein multiple times throughout her career. The producer would allegedly joke to others in the industry, "Kate lives to say no to me." The actor said that rebuffing the powerful producer "undoubtedly harmed my career," and that she never "felt supported by anyone other than my family."

Concluding the sobering statement she wrote, "for every moment like this there have been thousands where a vulnerable person has confined outrageous unprofessional behaviour and found they have no recourse, due to an atmosphere of fear that it seems almost everyone has been living in."

A small number of celebrities have come to Weinstein's defence in the past weeks, including Lindsay Lohan and Donna Karan. The fashion designer said in a red carpet interview "are we asking for it by presenting all the sensuality and all the sexuality? She's since explained that she was "confused" by the questions the interviewer was asking her, and that she regretted the words the second they came out of her mouth.
