listen to the first single from mø’s new album, forever neverland

Plus! The best of new music Friday in one sunny i-D playlist.

It’s been literally years since Danish popstar ’s 2014 debut No Mythologies Follow crashed into our lives, prompting hair braid swinging that never quite matched her own and this dance routine-filled music video that i-D made for addictive single Walk This Way. If you, too, have been tiding yourself over with her collabs with Snakehips, GoldLink and Noah Cyrus, confident that you were promised a second album at some point, you’re in luck! Last night, MØ announced a release date and a first single on Instagram:

Cute. MØ describes the first single, Sun In Our Eyes, as “a combination of the two ingredients I’m always craving in music: uplifting and melancholy vibes,” and was produced by her long-time collaborator Diplo. “It’s about imaginary love and living in a bubble, which are also subjects of the album.” I’ve got high hopes for this one, and a feeling that the record will live up to them. What a fitting place to kick off today’s BEST NEW MUSIC PLAYLIST then!

Next up, it’s the double whammy of surprise Childish Gambino songs. Thank you Donald Glover. What did we do to deserve two whole summer jams oozing with love and sun and global important environmental issues? Donald’s pal Syd and The Internet continue on a funky flex with La Di Da from their forthcoming album, Hive Mind, due 20 July. And there’s a new disco kid in town called Cola Boyy, who we’ll be introducing you to properly soon enough. Fresh from a tour with MGMT, his new single Penny Girl seriously bangs.

Ummm Ariana Grande just wrote a sexy song about sexual empowerment and it’s super sexy. God Is A Woman (true) is a slow burning late-night love song about being omnipresent in your love-giving. After tweeting out lyrics in the build-up -- love it how I move you, love it how I touch you my one / When all is said and done, you'll believe god is a woman -- she drove fans wild with the statement: pussy is a privilege. Interestingly, according to an interview between Ariana and Jimmy Fallon, this is her Nonna's favourite song from upcoming album Sweetener, due August. Her fiance, SNL comedian Pete Davidson feels the same, tweeting: “giaw is my favourite. It makes me cry every time I hear it. You guys are gonna shit. The whole album is fire.” Indeed.

To celebrate her birthday (11 July) Lil Kim released the first single from her fifth studio album, due later in the year. It’s been a whole 22 years since her debut solo album Hard Core brought sexuality to rap, and if the dancehall-leaning Nasty One is anything to go by, she’s never going to stop. Fuck, did you hear the Busta Rhymes remix of Anderson.Paak’s recent single Bubblin’ yet? It. is. so. good.

Also good is Sigrid’s Schedules, FTSE’s I’ll Show You A Good Time and Iglooghost’s Clear Tamei -- a cartoon trip of a song written in a made-up language and complete with a totally mad video. Plus there’s new stuff from Gaika, Not3s, Lancey Foux and Skepta, Denzel Curry, The Lemon Twigs and NY’s Lafawndah. Enjoy!
