On June 16th, the day that would have been fallen rapper, Tupac Amaru Shakur's 44th birthday, singer/songwriter Jhené Aiko and MTV News released a tribute to her idol by re-creating three of his most iconic photographs. Captured by Danny Williams, the photographs include a flip of the legendary David LaChapelle lensed 'modesty gold chains' bathtub shot.

When asked by MTV News what side of the rapper she related to the most? Jhené replied, "I think the poet; the poet in 'Pac and the philosopher. He was thirsty for knowledge and I relate to that a lot, which is why a lot of the things that he did was contradictory to most people. Most people don't understand that it's OK to be human and say one thing, do another thing, think another thing and then act another way. That's what makes us amazing is that we're all these things at once."

Listen to Jhené Aiko's cover of her favourite 2Pac track, 'Keep Your Head Up' below and be sure to catch her live at Soulfest in October.
