guess who's the most influential woman on twitter

Taylor Swift? Kim Kardashian? Oprah Winfrey? You might have to guess twice – this is not just about your followers, it’s about maximum impact.

According to stats gathered in March 2015, Katy Perry is the most followed Tweeter, with 66million Katy Cats (now on 70million). Justin Bieber drew up a close second, followed by Barack Obama and then Taylor Swift. But, ultimately, the top 10 list had a 6:3 ratio of female to male. Who run the world?

In honor of the fact that us girls are ruling the social stratosphere, Huffington Post has created a list of the 100 most influential women on Twitter, based not only on the amount of followers a user has but also on how much they engage with them, thus Katy Perry didn't come out on top, and Beyoncé's 14 million followers meant NOTHING due to her measly 8 tweets in her Twitter lifetime.

With a total added up from scores based on their influence - "a score out of 1,000 ranking the likelihood that someone will trust a Twitter user and act upon their posts," their outreach ("how active they are on Twitter"), and finally their number of followers, the final list is not exactly what you'd expect…

Coming in at second place is unexpected feminist warrior Ariana Grande, who has proved over social media that she's got something to say. She may only have 29 million followers compared to Katy Perry's 70 million and Taylor Swift's 58 million, but her recent manifesto speaking out against the media's double standards towards women - and their too often demeaning description of her as "Big Sean's ex" - received 90,000 retweets, giving her top marks in influence and outreach.

In first place is, drumroll please… Britney Spears. The Baby One More Time singer's media profile is nowhere near as gargantuan as it was in the noughties, but her 42 million strong band of followers have remained loyal to the pop star over her two-decade career, retweeting her to the top of the Twitter ranks.
