Nate Lowman for The Posters
It's about time you upgraded that crumpled Titanic poster pinned above your bed and The Posters is here to help. Launching to coincide with their pop-up shop at The Standard Hotel Miami during Art Basel, The Posters is your new go-to e-commerce platform for exclusive, affordable works by emerging and established artists. Beginning with a limited release of four original images by Wyatt Kahn, Owen Schmit, Paul Wackers, and Nate Lowman, each edition will retail for $55 with 10% of the proceeds going to arts education groups.
The Posters was conceived out of founders and art world veterans Adrian Rosenfeld and Athena Currey's mutual love of posters and a mission to democratize the art market. "I was working with Wes Lang and I saw that a lot of people were interested in poster or prints by him," Athena said via phone from their offices in Los Angeles. "A lot of art collectors start with posters. We thought this would be a really great way for people to enter into the art world."
"We thought we should make posters, we should make them affordable, and we should support children's art classes," she continued. "Those were our missions from the beginning. While I was working with Wes, I was also working at Roosevelt Hospital. I saw how much art could help people and the difference it made in people's lives."
Even with posters by Sadie Laska, Mark Hundley, and Sam Falls on the horizon, Athena's still geeking out over her chance to own her very own Nate Lowman. "I'm a big fan of Nate's! The fact that I can actually afford to buy something that he made, I'm really excited about that!"
