Stuart Vevers took a "magpie" approach to Americana this season, the show notes explained. He cherry-picked the coolest, cutest details from hockey team uniforms, cowgirl gear, and 70s schoolgirl ensembles, blending them together with something a little tougher. The result was distinctly New York, but with some Western heritage — like a hometown girl newly touched down and vibing with the big city.

Varsity patches shaped like animals, letters, and team shields were stitched onto wool bomber jackets in classic team colors: royal blue, cherry, and orange. They were worn with matching paneled A-line skirts and metallic studded loafers with little curved heels — adding some eclectic charm and stopping the looks short of sickly-sweet.

Vevers also looked West from the sports teams of the Ivy League, incorporating cowboy shirt detailing on a blouson jacket and matching skirt fit for a rodeo queen. Prairie florals and paisleys also popped up on ruffled shirts with long 70s collars and oversized pearl buttons. They recalled the ditzy prints of Coach's spring/summer 16 collection, but felt less innocent, mixed with black leather motorcycle jackets, cardigans with jacquard skulls, and gold metallic biker boots.

Coats are one of Vevers' strong suits, and he hit one out of the park this season with an array of fluffy and furry shearling numbers. A couple of navy wool coats (worn by i-D faves Binx and Mica Arganaraz) also stood out. Covered in embroidered patches they had the worn-in appeal of personalized army-navy store finds — but with the perfect finish and cut of a fashion house that's been doing Americana right since 1941.
