Miley Cyrus has announced via Instagram that she will star in the upcoming, as yet untitled Amazon TV series from Woody Allen, starring alongside Elaine May and the director himself.

"Fuck yeah ! Stoked to be in Woody Allen's first series!!!!!" Miley captioned a picture showing a painting of the director, surrounded by smiley faces and dolls. "I had claimed 2016 to be my year of 'chillin the fuck out' but next to my bed for a few years now has been this portrait of W.A. & I was looking into his eyes when I got the call to be a part of the cast and work alongside the bad a$$ Elaine May & da dude himself!," she explained, dropping a juicy tidbit about the era the series is set in: "1960zzzz here I cummmmm".

Her decision to work with a director who has been dogged by well-documented allegations of child abuse from his adoptive daughter Dylan Farrow (that Allen has always denied) has upset a number of fans, who responded in the comments to note the perceived disparity between her commitment to supporting vulnerable teens through her Happy Hippie Foundation and her choice to work with the controversial director.

The series is scheduled to start at some point this year, but no release date has yet been announced. It will join Lena Dunham's new feminist sitcom in focusing on the 1960s -- an era of youth rebellion, counterculture explosion, civil rights and anti-war movements, and the sexual revolution.
