Banoffee: Music To...Get Dressed To
No one on earth knows how to dress and party quite like Banoffee.
Banoffee is Martha Brown, the bambi legged, impossibly stylish, eternally fun Melbourne musician currently setting the world on fire. A long time i-D favourite, the musician makes beats as sweet as her name and attitude. Melding synths, beats, R&B, and gentle lyrics with self empowered sentiments she's not your average pretty pop ingénue. This week she made us a mix to Get Dressed To, and seeing few women know style and fun like her, we couldn't ask for anything more.
Music to shift your mood from staying in to staying up all night... "That's Us/Wild Combination" by Arthur Russell has never failed me!
Music for fiery arguments and emotional goodbyes... "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill", 6 God by Drake, Boss Up mixtape by Tink. Sooo satisfying
Music to kiss and make up to... "So Here" by Oscar Key Sung. What a jaw line.
Music to heal a broken heart to... Disco is always welcome in my heart space. Change's "Change of Heart" is my healing track. The lyrics "Give me back all my love, I've had a change of heart" never fail to get me out of bed. "So Good" by Destiny's Child is also a game changer for me.
Music to get high to... The Weeknd, Drakes ballads and "Fuck You All the Time" Jeremih.
Music to take a long drive to... Nick Huggins' Shipwreck LP. I highly recommend looking this up and buying a copy. It is such articulate delicate and heart warming music. Nick inspired me to play music at the beginning of it all. He's the wisest producer I know.
Music to walk down the aisle to... My brother walked down the aisle to "Under Your Spell"by Desire and that was beautiful. Until gay marriage is legal I won't be walking to anything though. I don't think it's fair to invite my beautiful sister to a ceremony that doesn't embrace her love and everyone else's.
Music you'd like played at your funeral... Haha I wrote a will when I was 11 it had "My Heart Will Go On" and "Tiny Dancer" on it as my funeral songs. I'd now just like my sister Hazel to sing or Gillian Welch.
Music to have sex to... Silence. Or Limp Bizkit.
Music to celebrate your birthday to... Last birthday my best friend picked me up in a convertible sport car and we drove out into the hills and danced naked to all our feel good hits. Main themes were Beyonce, Drake, Whitney Houston, Demi Hines, and Luther Vandross.
Music to play at the afterparty when it's 6am and the sun is beginning to rise... Steve Reich.
Music that could put even an insomniac to sleep... I can't get to sleep to music, I can't help but get too involved and it wakes me up. Meditation CD's are more my jam. My dads is favourite (not to be biased or nothing).
