Fashion East might just be the greatest fashion talent incubator in the world. Could anyone else lay claim to having helped launch the careers of designers as diverse and successful as Kim Jones, Jonathan Anderson, Craig Green and Simone Rocha? And two LVMH Prize winners in Wales Bonner and Marques’Almeida? The answer is, of course, no. This season’s line-up was revealed this morning, with Yuhan Wang joining ASAI and Charlotte Knowles on the Fashion East catwalk next weekend.
The Chinese-born designer graduated from CSM in 2016 with a BA and was runner-up in the L’Oreal Young Talent Award. She showcased her MA collection in February, which explored the relationship between Asia and the west, and set cuteness against sexiness. According to Yuhan it was about “beauty with weirdness, softness, delicacy and sensibility”. She has previously interned at JW Anderson and Oscar de la Renta.
“This trio is, for me, what London is all about -- new ideas, daring creativity and high energy,” Fashion East’s founder Lulu Kennedy explains. “Yuhan’s delicate, unravelled aesthetic is a beautiful addition to the powerful mix of ASAI and Charlotte. I’m excited to see so many people wearing these designers and international retailers getting behind them.”
Fashion East’s newest graduate, Supriya Lele, will show her debut solo presentation at LFW this week also.
