Rei Kawakubo and Adrian Joffe's Dover Street Market New York just celebrated its one-year anniversary, and the retailer is looking fresher than ever. On the occasion of its bi-annual changeover, "New Beginnings," the store adds permanent spaces for Miu Miu and IDEA books, as well as several other exciting updates.
In January and July, the store closes down for several days to completely refresh the interior: installations are reimagined, designers old and new come in to configure their spaces, and new product is introduced. The shop's third floor saw the most action, with the Miu Miu and IDEA books spaces, as well as an expanded Simone Rocha section.
Other notable changes include Kawakubo's first Comme des Garçons installation for DSMNY, a ground floor display of her sanguine spring/summer 15 women's collection, Blood and Roses. Another first: Noir Kei Ninomiya, the newest designer in the Comme des Garçons family, will see his intricately shredded leather pieces treated to their own shop-in-shop. A new dedicated women's creative space will join the six floor, featuring a diverse collection of brands including Alexander Wang, Christopher Kane, and Haider Ackermann.
