Balenciaga has announced it will be putting on a menswear show for the first time its 99-year history. Slated to take place on June 22, the show will, according to a statement by the house, "debut the masculine vision of Balenciaga's new artistic director Demna Gvasalia, showcasing his first men's collection for the historic maison." Although the house does currently produce a menswear line, the event, which takes place during Paris Menswear, will be the first time it has brought that collection to an international stage.

As reported by i-D Fashion Features Director Anders Christian Madsen following the brand's fall/winter 16 women's show, "For Gvasalia -- who is currently challenging the cycle of the whole industry at his other brand, Vetements -- it's about breaking with the traditions of the system." And while the show is certain to contain enough Balenciaga moments to satisfy the house's purists, it goes without saying that this most disruptive of artistic directors will invariably stamp his own visual trademarks onto the show. Gvasalia's fashion revolution ploughs on.
