why does everyone care about tom hardy’s sexuality?
The acting legend shuts journo down for asking about his sexual orientation.
During a press conference at the Toronto International Film Festival, a journalist for LGBTQ site Daily News questioned Tom Hardy about his "ambiguous" sexuality and whether he "finds it hard for celebrities to talk about their sexuality?" to which Hardy coolly responded, "what on earth are you talking about?" before adding, "I don't find it difficult for celebrities to talk about their sexuality. Are you asking in about my sexuality?" to which the journalist responds with an awkward "sure" and Hardly rebuffs with the utmost shade: "why? Thank you."
24 hours later the internet is crawling with opinion pieces about the happily married, father of two's sexual orientation. But why is it actually relevant? Yes, the journalist question was referring to Hardy's 2008 interview in Attitude, in which the actor revealed he'd "played with everything and everyone" but that he wasn't "into men sexually" and despite "loving the form and physicality" of a man, gay sex did "nothing" for him. And yes, Hardy plays the roles of notorious gangster twins Reggie and Ronnie Kray in hit new film Legend. Ronnie was openly gay. But then again, these are just characters, and, in the context of the film, Hardy's homosexual tendencies are just a performance. If Hardy were an openly gay actor playing the role of a straight man, there wouldn't be this salacious gossip and prying interest into the actor's private life, so why do we care when it's the other way around?
