As the situation in the Syrian city Aleppo becomes increasingly desperate, with the UN describing it as a "complete meltdown of humanity" and reporting "reliable evidence" that pro-government forces have been shooting civilians dead in the streets, a number of demonstrations have been planned in London and across the country in the coming days. A petition asking the UK government to "air-drop life saving aid into the starving cities in Syria" has reached more than 75,000 signatures - sign it here.

Saturday 17 December in London
The Syria Solidarity Campaign have organised a March For Aleppo starting at Marble Arch in Hyde Park at 12.30 on Saturday, writing on the event page: "We urgently ask you to march with us this Saturday to show our extreme rage about the complete inaction of the international community in the face of catastrophic bombings in Aleppo… Join us to protest against the large-scale bombardments and targeting of civilians in Aleppo."

Medact, an organisation campaigning for "global health on issues related to conflict, poverty and the environment", has organised a protest for UK Doctors & Nurses In Solidarity With Syria taking place on Saturday at 2pm in Parliament Square.

The vigil is being organised by the Syria Solidarity Campaign, who write that it is a "Christmas vigil to show solidarity with people in Aleppo and throughout Syria - and to urge action. Come along and light a candle with us to bear witness to what is happening there and to send the residents of Aleppo and beyond a strong message of support".

Thursday 15 December in Liverpool

Sign the petition for UK Government aid
A petition asking the UK government to "air-drop life saving aid into the starving cities in Syria" has reached more than 75,000 signatures, a figure that is growing quickly. "Aid is being blocked from reaching major cities, Russian and Assad forces have heavily increased their air strikes, targeting and destroying the only remaining hospital in Eastern Aleppo. The time to act is now," writes Ella Cosgrove, who started the petition.

Cosgrove continues: "After attending an APPG friends of Syria discussion in the Houses of Parliament today, Raed Saleh, Head of Syrian Civil Defense informed us that within 20 days, a quarter of the people trapped in Aleppo will have starved to death, 100,00 of them are children. Aid has been blocked and bombing has increased. British planes use the airspace above these cities on their coalition operations. Use this advantage to drop vital aid to the people below. There is no excuse not to act immediately".
