The first trailer has been revealed for Moonlight, starring Naomie Harris, Janelle Monáe and Mahershala Ali. Directed by Barry Jenkins, the film is an adaptation the Tarell Alvin McCraney play In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue, which follows three chapters in the life of Chiron, a black man coming to terms with his sexuality in 1980s Miami, while the War on Drugs rages in the background.

Scheduled for release in the US on 21 October, the film represents Janelle Monáe's first major film role (other than her voice work on Rio 2). Monáe will also star in 2017's Hidden Figures, a film about three African American women who worked as mathematicians and engineers on the famous Earth orbit mission in 1962, in which Mahershala Ali also appears.
