young brit bobby abley drives us bananas in new york
The designer, who last showed in London at MAN, decided to show his designs at NYFW this year.
Bobby Abley's MAN shows have caused stirs at recent LC:Ms with their twisted mix of scary mouthguards and cutesy mouse ears, but this season he decided to move away from the city where he was fast gaining a reputation, turning his attentions to New York instead. The Scarborough-born designer, who worked for Rankin, Alexander McQueen and Jeremy Scott before going it alone, presented an autumn/winter 15 collection of fun sportswear with clever use of drawstrings, straps and stripes, plus a clever collaboration with Disney. Abley used The Jungle Book to fun effect, with a banana puffa jacket, a gorgeous green leaf print and characters including the cool black panther Bagheera, cute bear Baloo and hypnotic eyes himself, Kaa. There was also great use of the Bobby Abley logo, teddy bear fabrics and some banging backpacks. Now he's nailed London and New York, perhaps Paris - Eurodisney - is next.
