young thug and kendrick lamar win big at the uk music video awards
i-D were there to help select the winner of Best Styling in a Video and now we all have sore heads, okay.
The 10th annual UK Music Video Awards took place last night, with Ryan Staake's video for Young Thug's Wyclef Jean named the biggest winner overall.
Held at the Roundhouse in London's fashionable Camden, the clip -- which nearly didn't happen when the not-exactly-reliable Thugger failed to show up for the shoot -- was named Video of the Year, picking up gongs for Best Editing and Best International Urban Video in the process.
Current i-D cover star Kendrick Lamar, one of the most nominated artists at the awards, was named Artist of the Year, accepting the trophy via personal video massage (which we missed because we went to the bathroom). Meanwhile, Best Styling in a Video was presented by i-D's own Global Executive Producer Eloise King to the team behind Territory by The Blaze.
Other winners included Matilda Finn (Best New Director) for her work with Danny Brown, Bicep and i-D Class of 2017 alumnus Obongjayar; and Polydor's Semera Khan (Best Commissioner) for a run of hits that included big-hitting videos for Haim, Lana del Rey and up-and-coming solo artist Mick Jagger.
"More than ever, music video is the place where musicians collaborate with filmmakers to create astonishing works of creativity," says UK Music Video Awards editorial director, David Knight in a strongly worded press release. "The winners and nominees at the UKMVAs have demonstrated that with their exceptional work in the past year. Music videos are more creative than ever, more diverse and eclectic than ever, better than ever."
