The 27-year-old producer MikeQ is a major player in the Ballroom / Vogue-House-American culture that even 25 years after the film Paris is Burning, rules the New York underground. From New Jersey, he has not only been active as one of the hottest DJs in the scene but also puts our music via his own imprint Qween beat.

After throwing down at the i-D Germany x Zalando Fashion House Party in Berlin, we welcome MikeQ to the i-DJ family! Laying down 30 minutes of straight New Jersey fire! Press play!

What are the top three tracks getting heavy rotation in your sets?
Right Now I'd have to say my remix of TT The Artist's Ice Cream & Cherry, #BBHMM By Qween Beat's Divoli S'vere and my remix of Club Cheval's Basement to the roof

What's the most hedonistic party you've ever been to?
GHE20G0TH1K hands down, but many others.

What's the most phenomenal clubbing venue in the world and why?
Well I haven't been to them all to correctly answer that. For me sound is number 1, and with it being a recent memory in my brain I'd have to say Mighty In San Francisco killed it.

If you could go back to back with any DJ, at any venue, who would it be and why?
Ok so this is going to sound funny but its a person who is my friend, on a personal level, somebody I came up with deejaying, somebody I talk to almost daily BUT I refuse to say his name because he's just a sucky person and a jerk, but an amazing DJ, we carry together but are rivals at the same time.

History is made at night... what was the best night of your life?
Any night I get to be MikeQ any night people who know of me travel out their homes and pay to see me play music. I appreciate that and that always makes it the best for me,

What's the most debauched thing you've ever seen on the dance floor?
This was years ago, but it was a guy who was just zoned out on the dance floor, like NOT HERE but eyes closed, standing and feeling it.

What would your dream rider consist of?
Unlimited guests, a photographer and camera crew, armed security, Tequila and thats about it.

What does your actual rider consist of?
Basic things. The perfect tech setup, a bottle of something, fruits, chips, hummus, towels, and a post card. I did not make these up its just standard, which is cool, I don't ask for much.

What's your favourite party anthem of all time?
Masters at Work - The HA Dance. Hence me remixing it multiple times.

Do you think music subcultures are losing their definition?
I can only speak for Ballroom culture and I don't think its losing its definition, its still 100% there but I see where it can just go all wrong, and let me not say wrong, but I see where it can expand into something different, and thats going to be hard to recognise and get the full ballroom effect.

What producer are you predicting big things from this year?
My New Jersey homie DJ 4B, I met him one night here in our home state when I was out with Diplo, he's on his way.

Where do you go when the record ends and the lights come on?
To bed, always. I don't usually hang out after. I like to get an early start on the next day, as that's usually when I get to explore and photograph whatever city I'm in.

What track would you end the night on when everyone's still awake and its time to go to sleep?
My remix of Kelela's Cherry Coffee, because the ending is probably my favourite part.

What's your party trick?
Trick? I dont think I have any but just me deejaying I think is something magical
