exclusive: watch selfridges refashion shakespeare
If Lady Macbeth wore Moschino, she'd look a little something like this…
To celebrate the exciting opening of their new Designer Studio and recent Shakespeare Refashioned project which launched last week, Selfridges have released a short video introducing a modern day rendition of Shakespeare. Shot just outside of London by Mary McCartney, the video presents a modern twist on old Shakespeare classics, with some of the Bard's most famous (and fashionable) characters making an appearance. A skinhead Romeo and Juliet exchange a tender kiss in Martina Spetlova, Ambush and Fyodor Golan, alongside shots of Lady Macbeth in Moschino and a Christopher Kane-clad Ophelia. The two-minute film titled The Bard of the Street was narrated by London-based poet James Massiah who recited an updated version of classic Shakespearian literature.
The Shop's new Designer Studio space will feature 60 labels including J.W.Anderson, Joseph, Marni, Christopher Kane, Vetements as well as young brands such as Richard Malone, Dilara Finikoglu, Martina Spetlova, Yulia Kondrinina, Plys, Alyx and Wales Bonner. There will also be a book and magazine shop curated by Claire de Rouen and art installations created by London set designers Gary Card, Anna Lomax and graphic artists Patternity.
