The director of Cobain documentary Montage of Heck, Brett Morgen, has revealed that a new album of previously unheard material by Kurt Cobain will be released this summer. The documentary presents huge amounts of previously unseen home footage of the Nirvana frontman, his wife Courtney Love and their daughter Frances Bean Cobain. We've already heard a recording of Cobain singing The Beatles' And I Love Her, but this is the first news of unreleased original music.

In an interview with Bedford + Bowery, a New York magazine offshoot produced by NYU journalism students, director Brett Morgan was asked about the music he uncovered while researching the film, and whether there were any unheard gems. "We're going to be putting out an amazing album this summer that I think will answer that question," he said, adding that it, "will feel like you're kind of hanging out with Kurt Cobain on a hot summer day in Olympia, Washington as he fiddles about. It's going to really surprise people. Just to be clear, it's not a Nirvana album, it's just Kurt and you're going to hear him do things you never expected to come out of him." It was persistently rumored that Cobain was working on a solo album in the time before his death; it seems now is the time to start waiting for it again, with bated breath.
