dark mofo unveils sinful 2019 program
Featuring FKA Twigs, Kelsey Lu, Sampa The Great, Nicolas Jaar, Sharon Van Etten — and that's just the beginning.
Dark Mofo has released yet another boundary-pushing list of exhibitions, performance artworks and shockingly weird installations for their 2019 festival. Today, the full program was released, which promises a rapturous three weeks of obscure, high-intensity audio and visual stimulation. Whether you’re interested in ambient music, thoughtful debate or simply just love a gothic aesthetic, there’s something for all.
Coinciding with the winter solstice, the festival is promising an impeccable lineup with artists like FKA Twigs, Kelsey Lu, Sampa the Great, Puce Mary, Rodger Eno (yes, Brian Eno’s brother) and Vatican Shadow to name a few, all set amidst Tasmania’s shockingly stunning landscape. If this wasn’t enough to get your blood pumping, Against All Logic (Nicholas Jaar’s alias) and Liminal Soundbath are playing this year for the first time.
Keep your eye out for the neon anti-christ crosses too. They may or may not be there this year due to the controversy they previously caused within Tasmania’s Christian community. Last year during the winter festival, the installations prompted around 20,000 people to sign a petition to have the crosses removed or turned up the ‘right way’. So far the the Dark Mofo team are yet to comment.
Other big names set to exhibit include performances and installations by Ai Weiwei, Oliver Beer, Chris Townsend, and Mona’s own Kirsha Kaechele, as well as Sharon Van Etten who appeared in David Lynch’s Twin Peaks: The Return, set to perform music from her new album Remind Me Tomorrow.
The tickets for the festival go on sale on the 16th of April. Get your thermals ready.
