The first teaser trailer for Suffragette, the film about the fight for women's right to vote at the turn of the last century, has been released in support of a campaign to encourage young women to vote. The clip from the film about Britain's early feminist movement has been released in support of the #votingmatters campaign, which hopes to encourage young women to vote.

The film is not out until 30 October but the makers hope to raise awareness of #votingmatters and get young women to register to vote in the general election ahead of the deadline to do so on 20 April. More than 9 million women didn't vote in the last election in 2010.

The already Oscar tipped Suffragette stars Carey Mulligan as Maud, a young woman who joins the Women's Social and Political Union as it fights for the right to vote in early 20th Century Britain. Meryl Streep has a small role as famed political campaigner Emmeline Pankhurst and the film also stars Helena Bonham Carter and Anne-Marie Duff, directed by Sarah Gavron (Brick Lane) from a screenplay by Abi Morgan (The Iron Lady). The film has already made history by being the first commercial project allowed to film in the Houses of Parliament.
