relax, tommy hilfiger did not imply that gigi hadid was fat
But his casting director did hide her body under a large poncho to make her 'fit' with the other models.
Tommy Hilfiger fall/winter 15
Another day, another misunderstanding when it comes to models' size and shape. The model in question this time around is the lovely Gigi Hadid — she of the gorgeous curves and athletic physique. The misunderstanding happened nearly two years ago when our favorite Hadid (just kidding Bella, we love you!) was given a large poncho to wear down the catwalk at Tommy Hilfiger's fall/winter 15 show. We thought she looked great, in fact it was the most popular item from his entire collection. So what's the problem?
Speaking to Yahoo Style's Joe Zee, Mr. Hilfiger himself let slip that the show's casting director had made her wear it because, "She doesn't really fit because you know she's not quite as tall as the other girls, she's not quite as thin." Naturally Twitter exploded and an army of Giginators, or whatever her fans are called, rushed to the model's defense.
Mortified that the internet thought it was he who had implied Gigi was fat, Tommy released a statement clarifying his comments: "The casting people put Gigi in the poncho, and I was not happy. I was saying, 'Don't hide her body.' Even though the poncho ended up being the best-selling piece, I was very unhappy. The suggestion that I thought she wasn't thin enough upsets me to no end. Gigi is the epitome of perfection." As if proof was needed, the very next season, Gigi was given a colorful bikini to wear instead.
