If you didn’t get your hands on a physical copy of Frank Ocean’s album-accompanying zine, no worries, the lucky few have been snapping away on social.
You must be living under a rock if you missed the news that Frank Ocean's long-awaited and desperately anticipated follow up to channel ORANGE, Blond, dropped over the weekend. And while anyone anywhere can sign up for a Apple Music free trial to listen to the album, it was somewhat harder to get your hands on the second of Frank's "two versions": Boys Don't Cry, the zine.
The lucky few who were able to queue up on a Saturday night in London, New York, LA or Chicago to get claim their copy of the publication -- really it's more of a hefty book than a zine -- have, however, fortunately been generous at sharing snaps of the pages of Boys Don't Cry across social media. Their updates have revealed that the zine includes content by a heavyweight selection of pop culture's finest, and includes poems, or lyric sheets, by Kanye West, Tyler, the Creator, and Frank Ocean himself.
Kanye West's poem is pretty lol, focusing on the relative merits of McDonald's food, and the plotting and scheming that goes on between them; with Tyler, the Creator's offering using speeding in cars as a metaphor for fame and living the fast life.
Titled Boyfriend, Frank's own poem describes his friendly lover, mentioning the historic US vote to legalise same sex marriage, but says they're living for the moment, spending time together, and ending with the cryptic line: "And if I die while I'm asleep / I pray to God my boyfriend / Keeps my secret / Peace".
The geniuses over at Rap Genius have transcribed what they've seen of Boys Don't Cry, check it out.
