the trailer for finn wolfhard’s new horror film is here
The reigning prince of spooky season makes his return in ‘The Turning’.
Finn Wolfhard doesn’t half love putting himself through the hard stuff, right? If he’s not being stalked by the Demogorgon in Stranger Things, or getting harassed by killer clowns in It, he’s chain-smoking and knocking back vodka by the litre in the barren setting of suburban Las Vegas (that’s The Goldfinch, by the way). Now, the 16-year-old actor-cum-musician has another role to add to his ever-growing roster.
Yep, he’s back in the horror realm for his upcoming film The Turning, a re-telling of the century-old ghost story The Turn of the Screw by Henry James. In it, Finn plays Miles, a boy who lives in practical solitude with his sister Flora (played by The Florida Project star Brooklynn Prince) in an old manor in Maine; left there by their uncle after both of their parents died. A new nanny called Kate (Mackenzie Davis) arrives to look after them, but soon discovers Miles, Flora and the house are all, quite frankly, batshit crazy.
In the trailer, we see Finn stomp on a fish’s head (yikes) and smash his nanny’s skull into a mirror (double yikes). He also seems to be able to play the drums like an absolute crazy person too.
The Turning has been in production for a while but is finally scheduled to hit cinemas in January 2020. While we don't know how closely the film will stick to the creepy Henry James source material, with the potent recipe it’s working with -- take one creepy house, add two sinister children and a light dash of ‘strangely naive matriarchal figure who can’t seem to see that both of these children need psychiatric help and not, you know, a little bit of love’ -- you know for a fact that this is gonna be top of your watch list for the year ahead.
Sleep tight for the rest of 2019 because Finn Wolfhard is going to give you nightmares in the new year.
