Spring is officially here, and while people in America's sunnier states tentatively get their ankles out, the producers of Spring Breakers are already plotting a return to the raucous shores of South Florida. Harmony Korine's intoxicating cult college film is getting remade as a TV series, reports Deadline. Korine won't be involved in the series, but Chris Hanley and Fernando Sulichin — who worked with the subversive cinema legend on the original 2012 film — have already found a platform for their new project. It will hit the small screen via Blackpills, a soon-to-launch channel specializing in short scripted content.

Part of Spring Breakers's rebellious appeal was its unexpected casting. Ex-Disney starlets Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens starred alongside Ashley Benson of Pretty Little Liars and Korine's wife Rachel as four college students embroiled in a string of robberies and drug scandals. It's unlikely the young women will be reprising their roles for the new series, and pretty much a given that James Franco and Gucci Mane won't be returning either, seeing as — spoiler alert — their characters were killed off in the film. However, an equally potent aspect of Spring Breakers is its electrifying, exquisite visuals. If Hanley and Sulichin can reinvent the transcendental "Everytime" piano scene or the sexed-up, EDM-fuelled opening montage, they might just be onto something. Regardless, we'll be here for the tracksuits, ski masks, and Reebok sneakers.
