If you're lucky enough to be in glorious Cali desert town Palm Springs during Modernism Week (a celebration of all things mid-century) from tomorrow (until 22nd February), then there's one event you should strive to see. It's a one-day only exhibition of the serene and surreal works of photographer Tom Blachford. The 27-year-old Australian was given the rare privilege of photographing one of the most iconic modernist houses, the Menrad Residence, and was commissioned because of his reputation for shooting by moonlight.

Chris Menrad, the owner of the residence, and the President of the Palm Springs Modern Committee, said: "What drew me to Tom's work was seeing Palm Springs and our signature mid-century modern architecture shown in a totally new way. I've always loved the fact that we have very few street lights here, and during periods of full moon the illumination is so magical. His photographs seem to capture that mystery, and offer an entirely unique perspective on the area."

The residence will be open for tours during the day and a cocktail party in the evening, when large scale versions of the photos will be on display and for sale.

Midnight Modern is on Friday, February 20th 2015 12:00pm - 7:00pmFor tickets go here.
